Saint Petersburg.

Built on the site of the stadium named after S.M. Kirov, the stadium on Krestovsky Island is called Krestovsky, Zenit Arena, but for the time of the Confederations Cup matches and the 2018 World Cup, which will be held here, the sports facility will be called the St. Petersburg Arena.

The decree on the construction project of a new football stadium dates back to 2004, the stadium was founded in 2007. At the moment, “St. Petersburg Arena” has already passed Glavgosekspertizu. Testing of the sliding roof has also been successfully completed: the fact is that the stadium is the only sports facility in the country at the moment with a sliding roof and roll-out field. Thanks to this technological solution, the field can be closed during bad weather, and disclosed on sunny days and during matches: FIFA regulations state that matches must be held outdoors. The roll-out field will allow holding concerts, exhibitions, competitions in other sports at the stadium: it will be possible to move it outside the stadium for the duration of these events. The author of the St. Petersburg Arena project is Japanese architect Kisho Kurokawa.

The total area of the arena is 287,600 square meters; 68 thousand people will fit on the podium during football competitions: 22 thousand in the lower tier and 46 thousand in the upper tier. Wi-fi will operate throughout the stadium. For the convenience of fans, it is even planned to erect a Novokrestovskaya metro station at the stadium.
