The monument was unveiled on August 9, 1988. The bell and the sculpture of the crane are made of bronze, the architectural part of the monument and the text board are made of nickel-plated metal. The base of the monument is polished forged granite.
In July 1988, the public of Nagasaki presented the twin city of Leningrad with a copy of the Peace Bell, the ringing of which marks the anniversary of the atomic bombing of Nagasaki on August 9, 1945. The design design of the memorial sign was developed in the 9th workshop of LenNIIIIproekt under the guidance of architect B.A. Izborsk.
