The museum was founded in February 2006 by the participants of the creative association “Mitki”, under the patronage of the Governor of St. Petersburg Valentina Ivanovna Matvienko, as a workshop of artists, an exhibition and creative center. On February 9, 2006, a museum exposition was officially opened.
The museum hosts art exhibitions, creative meetings, poetry evenings, acoustic concerts, book presentations, workshops for children and the disabled.
The main area of the museum is modern avant-garde and independent art. The museum hosted such landmark events as the exhibition “Mitki – Archetypes”, an exhibition of artists of the Arefyevsky circle, an exhibition in honor of the 75th anniversary of the artist V.N. Shagin, an exhibition of the legendary photographer Boris Smelov, an action “Walk around Petersburg” as part of the “Night” action museums 2010 “, the exhibition of disabled children of the rehabilitation center” ANIMA “, the exhibition of the non-profit rehabilitation Center” HOUSE OF HOPES ON THE MOUNTAIN “.
Within one year, about 11 exhibitions are held.
