In the 1820s the house was bought by the treasury from the merchant Zhadimirovskaya and transferred to the Orphanage, which was in charge of the School of the Deaf. The educational house, part of the department of Empress Maria Fyodorovna, occupied several buildings on the Moika. The Alexandrovsky female gymnasium was located here in 1871-1917. Further, various educational institutions and schools were located here.
