ALEXANDER GARDEN

Location : ALEXANDER GARDEN

Saint Petersburg.

The garden is located in the very center of St. Petersburg, next to its business cards: the Winter Palace, the Admiralty, St. Isaac’s Cathedral and the Bronze Horseman monument. It bears the name of Emperor Alexander II, during the reign of which it was opened. Initially, there were fortifications around the Admiralty, then the Admiralty meadow was divided, later divided into three areas: Admiralty, St. Isaac’s and Senate. By the opening of the garden in 1874, more than 5 thousand trees were planted, over 12.5 thousand bushes with a total of 52 species.

Today, the attention of walkers is attracted to the monument to Peter the Great “The Bronze Horseman”, a memorial plate and a section of rail on the site of the first line of the St. Petersburg tram, as well as a large fountain surrounded by monuments to figures of Russian culture.

Under Empress Anna Ioannovna, festivities were held in the Admiralty meadow with fireworks, wine fountains, and fun palaces were built.

During the days of the blockade, not a single tree in the garden was cut down for firewood.

Somewhere in the park there is a camel.
